JOURNEY TO THE CROSS
No matter where you start out in life and no matter where
you find yourself right at this moment, you will at some time, take a journey
back in time. We aren’t going to a garden this time, but to a Roman cross, to
the day the world decided to put to death the Son of God. This is a journey God has planned for each
one of us to make. It’s a journey where
you will come face to face with truth.
What you do with that truth is entirely up to you. It is a journey in which you will come face
to face with Jesus. You will then have
to choose.
Before the battle begins, heroes and
cowards all look alike.
-unknown-
There were many spectators in that crowd that day. Imagine yourself to be one of them. The
crowds were large because it was a Jewish holiday. Many had made a long journey to the city of Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover,
most were both tired and excited. There
were Romans, Greeks and Jews. There were
some religious leaders, merchants and there were beggars. There were some just like you and just like
me. There were some...
Some who stood at the foot of the cross staring up into the
face of God’s Son, mocking and jeering at Him. There were some that spit in His face. There are still some today who spit in His
face and turn away in disgust. Yet,
there were some that had spent the last 3 years of His life on this earth
loving, listening and hanging onto every word He spoke to them. Hearing words that spoke life to each heart
willing to hear. Which one are you?
There were some there that encouraged Him to come down from
the cross and save Himself. There were
some, who would later understand that if He had done what they said, we would
all be lost in our sin, forever. Eternally separated from a God who loves us so
much He would rather die, than to live without you or without me. Some saw a criminal, while some saw Immanuel,
God with us. Some saw hatred and some
saw love at its finest moment.
There were some that were indifferent to Him, even to the
end of His life. There were some that
would one day give their own lives willingly, to spread His message of
forgiveness, hope and of a love that was unconditional. There are some of those same kind of people alive today. Which one are you?
There were some that day that stood in awe. Knowing they were standing on Holy
ground. There were some that felt
threatened and gambled for His very clothes.
Some were drawn to Him and some turned away. There were some that laughed and there were
some that cried. Some who were glad to
see Him die and some that lost all hope when He did. There were some that ran to Him and some
that ran away. Which one are you?
There were some that could see what was happening and there
were some whose blind eyes would never see.
There were some the Son of God set free that day and some that would
forever choose to stay in bondage. Which
one are you?
There were some that saw a glimpse of heaven that day and
some that will never see heaven. There
were some that were ashamed at the mere mention of His name. There were some who knew that His name and
His alone had power to heal the sick, cause the blind to see and power to raise
the dead.
There were some that crowned Him
with thorns and some that crown Him with lives that bring glory to His
name. There were some that day who chose
life and there were some who chose death.
Some who would live and never die and there were some who would die
without ever really living. Which one
are you?
There were some that would continue to live hopeless, empty
lives and some that understood Him when He said, ‘I AM life’. Some that would follow Him to death.
There were some that walked away that day taking the broad
road that leads to destruction and some who made a choice to follow Him down
that narrow road that leads to life. The
broad path is a much easier path to take and many take it, fewer giants are on
that journey. To follow Jesus is a hard
path filled with giants. There are some
who run from the giants in life and there are some who reach for their
slingshot and rocks and run toward the battleline. Which one are you?
