About the Book

A warm and touching first hand experience encompassing history and sociology in one of America's most trying times ... the Great Depression, this book is poignant, factual, and a very comfortable read. The personal story goes deep into family trials, tribulations, tragedies, expectations and values. It's a must read for anyone interested in American history, bygone sociology, personal history, and just plain interesting facts. It is touching, rewarding, uplifting and informative. An extraordinarily humble beginning, with minimal physical comforts and sustenance from birth through teenage years, did not hamper lifelong successes of the author. On the contrary, they are credited with promoting them.

About the Author

The author’s initial idea was to record childhood memories into a letter to his children.  A multiplicity of positive reviews from various quarters convinced him to make it into a book – a work expressing appreciation and enjoyment for his low key, not too exciting, but very valued childhood, a childhood for which there are few regrets.  It is a treatise from memory.

From earliest recollections, although life was absent of amenities other than those required for an acceptable level of survival, his thoughts dwell on the warm and loving atmosphere, complemented by a continuous feeling of total physical safety and mental well being.

Married in 1951, he is the father of four children and the grandfather of four.  He retired as a Commander in the U.S. Navy in 1970 after 21 years service, having served in both Korean and Vietnam conflicts.  In his own business since then, he managed his own Employment Agency and Resume Service for many years.

He now resides with his beautiful artist wife in the very charming downtown San Diego, CA,  Marina District, surrounded by children, grandchildren and numerous friends, with “lots of fun things to do and see, all within walking distance.”

Asked about his philosophy of life, he answered, “I believe we were put here to enjoy life and to help others do the same.  I have always tried to live by that.”
