He said it so easily. Like he had
just been telling them, I will make you one, meaning I will make you a cake,
rather than then I will make you one, you, being Violet and one referring to a
lawless thief – except that Myquel, with rather not unintimidating
brawns peeking from beneath his vest, did not look like he cooked much.
“What?” Violet and Davyd
exclaimed at the same time. They gawked at Myquel as if he had gone insane.
“Let me repeat this,” Myquel said
slowly, “That barrier only lets Dark Ravagers through. If it let you through,
you are going to become a thief.”
“A thief!”
Violet repeated indignantly.
“Yes,” Myquel said calmly. “You
know--a thief...a bandit, one who steals.”
“I know,” Violet retorted,
annoyed. “I know what a thief is, I do not need a definition!”
“No.” Davyd snapped. He abandoned
the door and walked over. “No, no, no! She don’t know
what a thief is,” he complained. “And she’s got no clue what a Dark Ravager
is.” Davyd was in Myquel’s face as he had grabbed his friend by the collar
fiercely. “Myquel, ‘ave you gone
completely insane?”
Myquel glared back at him with
his icy dark blue eyes, and Davyd immediately released his clothing. “I know
what I’m saying,” he stated quietly. “I assure you both that I do.” He glanced
back and forth between Davyd and Violet.
The girl was getting nervous.
“Well I-I do not know what you are saying,” she stammered.
“Do I have to repeat myself?”
Myquel yelled, loosing patience, with an aggravated look on his face.
“You do not,” Violet replied,
annoyed. “Stop yelling! Dear god. Well, my answer to your offer is no.” Violet
was the daughter of Sir Luuc de Noitier, the most
powerful man in Hyde! She was a lady. Violet would never degrade herself
to a mere thief.
Myquel stared at her, bewildered.
“It wasn’t an offer,” Myquel told Violet. Violet’s uncomfortable return gaze
made Myquel realize that he was really frightening the girl. In his mind he cleared his thoughts and lightened the presence of
his powerful aura. “I’m sorry, I should explain myself,” he said in a kinder
voice. Violet recognized it as the voice he had used with her when she first
him. The voice that made her want to melt. With just one little smile from his gorgeous face, that voice could
probably get her to do anything.
“My name is Myquel,
I am the leader of Dark Ravagers, also known as the Azure Wolf.”
“What?” Violet shrieked, having
heard the violent rumors about the notorious leader. Killing babies,
slaughtering princess, not letting anything come between him and the precious
objects of his pray. He always got what he wanted to steal. “My lord, please
protect me.” Violet said, crossing herself.
“Relax!” Davyd told her. “He
won’t ‘urt you.”
“But- I have heard-“ Violet started to say.
“Will you let me continue?”
Myquel barked. Immediately, Violet quieted. In a nicer voice, Myquel continued,
“The Dark Ravagers are, if you didn’t already know, a very exclusive group of
thieves. We have a clan in every nation on Vria. You are in that of the Alablasi clan. There are many thieves and their families
living here.” Myquel’s eyes softened as he mentioned the families. It was
barely noticeable, but Violet caught it. She lost control of her own violet
eyes as they glued themselves to his amazingly light blue ones. As the thief
continued, every soft word he said echoed in Violet’s mind like forceful
electrons cascading against each other within the boundaries of an atom. She
could not help being mesmerized by him. “Even little
children. We’re not all bad people, here, miss, I assure you. No one
would try to kill you - unless you tried to kill them first. The barrier around
this Dark Ravager camp is very important. It protects us. Without it, we’d be
done. The king would find and slaughter us all. That’s why only our family
members and us thieves are supposed to pass through
it. So, I don’t know why you were able to follow us inside, but since you were,
I can’t let you go.”
