And these all, having obtained a good report through faith received not the promise; God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect (Hebrew 11:39, 40). The above text from Pastor William J. Harper’s sermon
entitled “From Then to Now” and the Sunday School lesson entitled “Jesus Teaches in Parables” generated some serious thinking on the part of the author and served as the catalyst for the writing of WE CAN BE BETTER THAN WE ARE.
The fact of the matter is that in this life we never achieve our best and will not achieve perfection (our best) until we are in that glorified state with Christ. Because in this life, we are not able to achieve our best is no excuse for not striving for our best. Because we are not at our best in this life places all of us in a state where (no matter what our status) we can be better than we are. It should be the desire of each person on this earth to be better and work toward that end. If the universal desire to become better were made practical, oh what a better world this would be!
Yes, we may have been “stony ground--” then but we can be “good ground--” now. We may have produced only “ sixtyfold--” then but we can produce a “hundredfold--” now. We may have been frozen by fear then but we can be free by faith now.
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the higher calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3: 13, 14). It is my desire that readers would take to heart the above scripture and seek to better themselves and others with the help of God. If the reader is a sinner, it is my prayer that the reader becomes a saint. If the reader is a saint, it is my desire that the reader becomes a better saint. We must continue striving in this life unto
death when we will be at our best. We must never allow ourselves to drift into a relaxed state while developing an inflated ego of thinking we have “arrived”. No matter who we are or what we are, we can be better than we are.
Thank God for allowing me to write what He has placed on my heart and thanks to you for taking the time to read what I have written.

over the years.
A sinner saved by the grace of God is the identity of the author. Yes, author is a “child of the most high King”. That's what the author is and who the author is and that's all the author wants and need to be.
