The dim light from the overhead street lamp bounced off the shiny object in one of the men's hands. Nick raised his binoculars once again am focused on the man with the shiny object. Nick, quietly and quickly, dropped to the ground. The shiny object that Nick was finally able to see through the night vision lens of his binoculars was a steel hook, in place of the man's hand. The same hook he saw this morning on the photographer with the video camera on the cigarette boat.
"What the hell is going on? Who are these guys? What is Barney doing with them?" Nick wondered out loud.
At that moment Barney walked back to his patrol car and got in. With his lights still off, he slowly and quietly backed out of the street, turned the car around, and drove off the island. The two men split up, with each going around the opposite sides of the house. "These guys are not selling girl scout cookies," Nick thought. But the last thing he wanted was trouble, with Scott sleeping in the next room. It wouldn't do any good to call the cops. It looked like they were involved somehow. "Who would ever believe this? All the years in New York City. Time served in Viet Nam and parachute drops in the middle of the night at ten‑thousand feet. My safe home on Golden Beach, the nation's safest community, might be my last fight," Nick though, incredulously.
Nick assessed the situation and realized the two guys heading for his house wanted one of two things. "They either want to rob me," he thought, "or this is some kind of hit. They want to kill me." He crawled along the floor to his dresser, He reached in and took out his 357 Magnum, loaded the weapon as he walked over to the emergency panic alarm button on the wall next to his bed. Nick took a deep breath, thought about any alternatives he may have overlooked, leaned over and pushed the button.
All hell broke loose as the alarm started to blare out an incessant screech that could be heard across the waterway in the apartments at Turnberry. Crawling out to the terrace, he watched as the two men scurried back to their boat. They quickly started the motors, hurriedly untied the lines, and pushed the throttles full open. leaving the area like a bat out of hell. The hook‑armed man dropped something on the ground as he jumped on board. It looked like a piece of paper or a photo. Nick ran down the outside steps, out the gate to the spot where the boat had been tied. After a short search, he found the paper. Without looking, Nick put the paper in his pocket, just as two police cars, lights and sirens going, pulled up to his house.
Barney jumped out of the first can and ran up to Nick's front door. He rang the bell, as Nick walked up behind him and said, "Barney."
McCardle spun around with a look of disbelief. He stared at Nick for a moment. Nick had seen that look before: in Nam. The look a man gets just before going on a dangerous mission. A look of sheer terror.

The plot revolves around a self made former military/CIA man living in an exclusive south Florida enclave with rich and famous neighbors. The towns wealthy residents are the target of a plot by an unsavory crew of miscreants to breach the police security and rob the most lucrative homes.
The thieves include Florida drug kingpins, a The New York mob crew, and an odd assortment of Florida low life's. The planning and execution and all its ramifications make for an exciting story. The interaction between local Golden Beach police, the ties to the mob, the beauty of the Florida, clubs, restaurants, beaches and overall ambiance of the magic city provide the mental image to visualize everything written.
There are twists and turns along with suspense. The possibility of an unexpected ending, make for exciting reading.
This story will lead the reader through encounters that span decades to a story that takes a few days.
The action is non stop. The scenes are graphic. Murder, Sadism, destruction are all intricately sewn through the story.
The reader will be glued to the book from the first chapter to the surprise ending.
Golden Beach is a wonderful read.
About the Author
Norm Stewart was born and raised in New York City. A first generation American, he grew up on the tough streets of the East New York section of Brooklyn. Educated in the New York school system, he quickly learned the value of education combined with the street sense of his surroundings. Many characters in his work are a composite of people he knew. Norm retired after a successful business career in broadcast television and Wall Street financial management. He moved his family to South Florida.
He is an avid yachtsman. Sailing, power boating or scuba diving in the Virgin Islands. He says he does his best writing while sipping a martini in the cockpit of his boat bobbing gently at a quiet anchorage.
