Well, which way do we go now, Mr.
Stubborn. I do not know, go anyway, to
the left, to the right, it is all an ugly sight to me. Mr. Snibbs began to
wonder which way to turn when he saw a sign saying, "Diddle
Dum Village". He decided to go there. Also seeing the sign, Mr. Stubborn said,
"what a dumb name", yet they continued on still complaining all the
way.
After awhile, they saw another
sign saying, “Follow the Brighter Colors".
The closer they got to the village, the brighter the colors became. Stubborn said, "We must be in a land of
magic. It is enchanted with every color
one could imagine. Mr. Stubborn, being a
very wealthy man then said, “I would pay a fortune to know the secret of how
everything became so beautiful, then I could have all of this to myself, ”anyone who knew Mr. Stubborn, knew this statement to be
true. He was indeed a selfish man.
"Drive faster Mr. Snibbs, I must speak to whoever is in charge of this
unusual place.” Mr. Snibbs drove as fast as the dirt
road would allow him to. Finally, they
entered the village. They saw neat
little houses all the same size, but there were no people in sight. Each house had one door and two windows. Each window had a flowerpot under it. The flowers in them changed to a different
color depending on the direction that you looked at them. It was difficult to determine what the colors
were. They all seemed to reflect the
colors around them. The flowers were all
in bloom, radiating brilliant colors.
The sun glistened brighter than they had ever seen. It made everything so much clearer. The trees were a multicolor, and each leaf
was a different color. There were small
Cherry Blossom trees, shaped like umbrellas.
They provided spots of shade all over the village. A rainbow, as wide as the village itself
painted the sky. While snow-white clouds
drifted lazily by, all of a sudden they heard a loud whistling sound.
Snibbs and Stubborn looked to see where the
sound was coming from. They heard the
whistle sound again; this time they saw thick puffs of smoke. The first puff of smoke was red, then blue,
then green, and then yellow. The chimney
that the smoke came from led to the largest building in the village. It was a psychedelic color. Mr. Stubborn noticed that Snibbs
had a puzzled look on his face. Stubborn
said, "What are you thinking about Snibbs?"
Just as he said this, villagers
began to come out of the building singing a funny song:
Diddle Diddle
Dum, Diddle Diddle Dee,
we work
and play; we make colors everyday;
They are free, everywhere for the
world to see.
Diddle Diddle
Dum, Diddle Diddle Dee
We make colors so bright; they
light up the night.
Mayor Dobbs will never tell, not
even sell, his secret recipe.
Diddle Diddle
Dum, Diddle Diddle Dee.
Each Villager is a different
color. Mr. Stubborn said, “Snibbs, I hate people who sing and look so happy.” Mr. Stubborn saw three of the villagers
coming his way. One was white, one was
brown, and one was yellow. “What are you
and what's that building for?” he asked.
"I'm Dot, I’m Dusty, and I’m
Downy,” the three replied.
