Elimination

I could tell right away this one was different.  As soon as I opened the door he froze and got still, hoping I wouldn’t notice him.  I just smiled and went to my seat.  How could he possibly try to play me that way?  He knew that I knew that he was not supposed to be here, and standing still like that didn’t change a thing.  I couldn’t believe how motionless he was!  I sat there and watched him watch me and pretend that he wasn’t.  If there had been a way for him to be camouflaged, his life may have been spared.  Unfortunately, his color made him quite noticeable.

I shifted my gaze slightly and he made an attempt to dart off.  I was just teasing though, and when I put my eyes back on him, he came to an inaudible yet screeching halt.

I wanted to laugh, but he was so intent on keeping his life, that I felt sorry for him.  I mean, he had a right to be on this planet.  I knew from reading the Bible that his folks had been here before mine.  I should probably respect him.  He appeared to be the kind whose Mama had told him, “Son there’s some places where you won’t be welcomed.” 

He shoulda listened to his Mama.  I had to do what I had to.  I turned my body to confront him, he tried to run but it was too late.

I stepped on and killed that brown bug in my bathroom.
