everything a bereavement facilitator, school counselor or mental health
professional needs to successfully design a safe, child friendly program to fit

of psychological, educational, primary prevention and creative traditions,
Black and Simpson have designed and implemented an innovative, school-based
support program to usher in a new approach to childhood grief. Now in its
fourth edition, this labor of love is filled with hundreds of expressive arts
activities and a sequential curriculum organized in an easy to access format
for professionals and lay facilitators to reference when working with an
individual child, a small group of children or an entire school. Included in
this manual is a chapter on responding to the needs of children children in the
aftermath of death crises such as suicide, homicide, terrorist attacks and war.
About the Author
Anne Black, Ph.D., holds a doctoral degree in
thanatology and community psychology, a master’s degree in education and
certificates of study in the art therapies.
Since 1996, Dr. Black has been serving as president of Comfort Baskets,
Inc. offering condolence products to people of all ages.
Penelope Simpson, NCC, LCMHC, has been designing and
providing quality education and social emotional literacy programs for children
for the past 30 years. A former Montessori teacher, she is currently the
Executive Director for the Center for Creative Healing’s Children’s Grief
Support Center and maintains a private practice specializing in children and families in grief in Putney, Vermont.
Passionate about their work, Black and Simpson
continue to provide trainings, workshops, speaking engagements and interviews.
