Find Your Mission

If you don't know where you're headed, you'll never get there!

The greatest day of your existence is when you know you have been saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. And the next two most significant days of your life are when you were born and when you found out why.

God didn't make no junk when He made you and He put you in His world for a purpose. There is no other justification for your existence.

God’s blueprint for your life is part of His total plan. He gives you the freedom to find your mission in life.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good work, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
(Ephesians 2:10)

The problem is that too many people put the job before the mission, like putting the cart before the horse. The mission is His plan for you – your calling; the job is merely a vehicle used to work on your mission field.

When you fail to discover God’s blueprint for your life first, you will quickly become a misfit when employed because you simply have a job that does not fit into your Creator’s plan. When this happens, you will wake up to misery every working day.

Numerous incidents in which I could have died early have occurred in my life. Why would I survive an automobile accident in which my vehicle was declared a total loss? Why would God cure me of prostate cancer? As my life has unfolded, I now know that the only reason for Him leaving me on this earth another second is that He has further plans for my life so I can fulfill his will. Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven!

I am Thine, O Lord
Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord
By the power of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a stead-fast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine. 

Based on my experience in business, I have discovered three kinds of workers: those who know what they want to do, those who don't know and those who don't care!

A direct correlation exists between finding one's mission in life and letting your light shine. This brings to mind a beautiful little melody that is often sung by little children during Sunday school:

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine!

The problem is that I can't let my “light” shine if I don't know my mission. It is so sad that so many people go through this journey and never find their calling. They are wanderers who are lost in the wilderness. Many have become professional job hoppers.

Over 50,000 soldiers who died in the Vietnam War never had the chance beyond their youth to make a difference. A child with cancer who dies never has a chance to shine in this world. Yet, many who are alive today merely exist because they have never found their purpose for living. When I pass by a cemetery, I often wonder how many tombstones represent lives that were empty and fruitless. How sad.
