About the Book

The Wolf At The Door is a reader-friendly, supportive, and comprehensive self-help manual designed to provide unemployed and insecurely-employed workers with the tools needed to develop full independence. It includes multiple exercises, strategies, and worksheets addressing the emotional distress of job loss: dealing with depression, containing anxiety, managing anger, controlling stress, embracing forced change, building self-confidence, and developing positive self-esteem.  At the same time, The Wolf At The Door provides an orderly, step-by-step campaign towards actually obtaining a desired position. It teaches transferable skills research, interviewing skills, novel approaches to employer contacts, innovative self-presentation, specific steps to access the hidden job market, the true purpose of a resume, prioritizing and pacing activities, time and resource management, and how to regain power over a life spinning out of control. Creative survival strategies are explored for the time when assets have become scarce or depleted. Finally, a blueprint is provided for lifelong maintenance of job-search readiness which can generate an enduring sense of personal security.
