Introduction

Success--you can get there from here.  No matter where you are, you can get there.  The issue is how attached you are to how you get there.

Cryptic sentence, right?  The fact is that within every organization, within every person, there is amazing potential.  Unfortunately, our society and the systems we have built don’t allow much room for that potential.  Our very active self-talk doesn’t allow much support for it either.  But it’s there.  It will rock your world when you learn how to really tap into it and create better outcomes.

This book is a manual to help any person and any organization create that success.  Each chapter is built around a specific topic.  Each topic is offered with steps to unleash that potential.  This manual is unlike any management or leadership book you have ever read because it tells you HOW to do what you need to do to create the success you want and tap into the amazing power within your organization.  While the concepts and principles of leadership are clearly within the pages of this handbook I go one step further and tell you HOW to do them. 

This book offers you the questions, the process, the sequence, the intention and much more that you will need to begin plumbing the creativity and excellence of your organization.

This handbook has been written with simplicity and I have done my best to capture the feeling that this is a coaching session.  It has a personal one-on-one feeling that I believe you will find supports your questions and process. 

We have all experienced the power of negativity and resistance in organizations.  Imagine the power if all that energy were shifted instead to success mode! 

It actually takes more energy to resist something than it does to move with it.  Think about that for a moment.  Imagine you are trying to swim against the rapids.  Feel how much energy it takes to swim against the white water.  Now-- imagine that you relax and begin to flow with the current, making small course corrections with minimal effort.  It seems effortless, doesn’t it?  But how often in the course of our day do we resist and fight what’s happening.  Imagine what would happen if you had the tools to effectively let go and still create the right outcomes--to flow with the course of events.  Imagine what would happen if you not only made these course corrections but had a team rowing with you!  Imagine how swiftly change and success could come to you.

Negativity is a huge power drain.  Think of the times when you have felt most negative.  Weren’t you tired?  It takes amazing energy to be and stay negative.  Stay there long enough and you will experience depression.  Stay there longer and you will not have enough oomph to get out of bed!

I’m not talking about esoteric nonsense here.  I’m talking the realm of possibility.  No matter how bad it may be within your organization, you can make these shifts.  In the course of my twenty five years in business, I have become an expert in helping organizations turn around.  I have helped 17 organizations go from bust to boom.  Each of these organizations has been in diverse industries and markets.  Over 25 years, we have been in good and bad economies.  There was little commonality in the structure or leadership of any of these organizations. 

There was only one common denominator for all of these groups--they were made up of people.  No business or organization can be created or survive without people.  People make the business on the inside and the outside.  If you don’t have the balance of skills to manage and lead, the hard and the soft skills, the process and the intention, you will find yourself struggling against the current of negativity.  Bring the skills into alignment and balance and you’ll be flying over the water!  Imagine the power!  Imagine the exhilaration!  Imagine the joy and energy with which you could meet each opportunity.
