A sneak peak of the book!!!
Her nerves were bubbling up like a witch’s brew.
Juliana stood up, stiff legged, and walked over to Lisa, who was waiting
outside.
“ Where’s Midnight?” Juliana asked, her nerves
settling down.
Julie looked down to see tears in Lisa’s eyes.
“ What’s wrong? Did you lose him?” Juliana asked,
her voice rising in panic.
Lisa nodded, “ When I went to his stall to tack him
up, the door was open, and he wasn’t there!!!”
Juliana felt another panic attack starting to rise,
but fought it down. They had to find Midnight!
“ Lisa.” Juliana instructed. “ You search for him
that way, I’ll go this way, okay? And we‘ll meet right here in five minutes.” Like
we’ll find him in five minutes! Juliana thought to herself frantically.
She scurried off, searching through every corner.
Juliana swallowed her tears as she began to lose hope. This time they wouldn’t
even have a chance to save Lavender Farms! They wouldn’t even be able to make
it to the race!
Just as Juliana was about to turn around, she heard
a loud whinny. Not just any whinny, but Midnight’s! She turned around, but saw
no horse. But could still hear Midnight’s stamping hooves.
She followed the pounding of the distressed horse’s
calls and knew Midnight was in pain.
She stopped dead at a door with a lock jammed on it,
and could hear that Midnight plainly was in there. She grabbed the lock, trying
to break it and get to her beloved stallion. But the lock stood firm and
Juliana soon gave up and started searching for the key.
“ And the Post Parade is going to start in exactly 4
minutes!” The announcer cried, which sent Juliana on her toes. She tampered
with the lock again for a few moments, then went back to the search, she looked
around the corner, under the door, and over a hundred places, until a lump
under a rug caught her eye.
“ Three minutes before the Post Parade!” The
announcer cried as Juliana lifted up the rug and no key was there. She tampered
with the rug for a moment, then saw a key tightly taped onto it. She ripped off
the tape and put the key in the lock, twisting it until it opened.
Juliana flung the shed open and saw Midnight, in the
shed, his halter was stuck to a piece of wood that was sticking out of the
wall. Midnight’s eyes were wide with fear and Juliana carefully inched her way
towards the piece of wood.
She grabbed Midnight halter and fiddled with it
until it came loose from the wood. Juliana hugged Midnight’s dirty coat, and
Midnight nudged her softly in return. Tears burned from Juliana’s eyes, and
streaked down her cheeks.
“ I thought I’d lost you, boy.” Juliana whispered in
his ear, she led him out of the shed and locked it up once more, leading him
towards Lisa, who had a saddle and bridle, including furious tears.
When Lisa saw them her tears stopped and she ran
towards Midnight, who was startled by her response to see him.
“ I thought I’d lost him!” Lisa cried.
Julie smiled, “ No, he’s still here.”
“ Two minutes before Post Parade!” The announcer
yelled.
Come on,
lets get him groomed and tacked up.” Juliana said urgently. Lisa nodded,
already running a brush down Midnight’s dry coat.
