From Chapter Ten – Epilogue

Neither society nor the church has yet accepted the message of Albert Einstein with regard to time and space.  According to physicists, space/time is not real but illusory, and is therefore, interpreted from our own particular mindset and understanding of appearance. 

If we accept this space/time world as reality we accept a dualistic reality; i.e. another reality beyond Spirit.  When Jesus said, “You cannot serve god and Mammon”, he was speaking precisely to this point.  Mammon was a pagan deity representing the material world (appearance deified).  I accept only the reality of Spirit, and not the dualism of two real but basically incompatible worlds.  Spirit is the only reality and is in fact the energy and design that underlies this world of appearance.  Because spirit energizes this world it is paramount that we accomplish a functional but temporal dualism of matter and spirit; then walk as it were, in both worlds simultaneously. 

Our Impersonal Self has identity with the reality of Spirit.  Our personal self is part of the illusion of space/time, and through the power of mind, projects outward the conditions of the world in which we live.  When Jesus said, “We must worship in spirit and truth” and “My kingdom is not of this world,” he did not say, “My kingdom is not in this world”. I believe he was trying to indicate that his reign was spiritual and that we are not to identify with what Paul called the god of this world.  Our Impersonal Self in the world has the ability to see the Real World beyond illusion.

I believe that efforts to change the world of illusion from its outside are mostly acts of futility.  When we attack the outer world caused by our own perceptions of judgment and condemnation we make the dreams appear real.  We are trying to change what is unreal in the first place.  There is little merit in trying to change the dream.  We will only wake up from the dream when we undo the unreal.  By giving permission for the inner Father to do the work we align with the dimension of Spirit, and change that occurs in the outer will be accomplished not by our personal energy but by the Father within.  The Real World we thus realize, is a better place to live. 

Futility in trying to change the dream also speaks to our approach to prayer.  Traditional prayers addressed to grievances and concerns can be labeled ‘pious worry’.  Directed toward problems; they energize the problems rather than the solution, and make the unreal more real to us. 

Modern-day physicists are the prophets for our society and we must first begin with the relationship between energy and matter.  To be converted from a materialist viewpoint to a spiritual one, we must first look at basic laws of matter.  This presupposes some understanding of modern physics. 

Since Einstein we have come to understand that matter and energy are not separate entities.  The quantum level of energy is at the root of all things.  When I was in high school the understanding we received from the teachers was simply that matter and energy were separate and immutable in their own sphere.  By habit we still look at material form as the reality of the world.  There is no eternal in the temporal.  The apparent world is not real. 

The field of science confronts us with overwhelming evidence that the energy beneath the molecular level is the underlying reality; and that outer form is simply an appearance resulting from that energy.  The form that appears to our sensory awareness is an illusion.  With instrumentation, science can direct us to an awareness of the existence of many kinds of energy of which our senses are unaware.  The real paradigm shift that is needed is to become aware that the energy of the universe is intelligent.  This primary intelligence is the basis of all forms of energy and ultimately of all matter and form.  The omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of traditional theology now faces, understanding the concept that the source of all things; All-That-Is, is the energy and intelligence of the universe.
