About the Book

I was born and raised on a ranch in Northwest Nebraska that was homesteaded in 1889 by my Great Grandfather, Truman Porter Moody. This book contains the memoirs about my life and the lives of my ancestors.

The ranch was near the Black Hills of South Dakota. There were many trials that the white man had to endure. Some of them actually witnessed Indian uprisings. Justifiably, the Indians didn’t want to give up their land. The white would claim the land as theirs because of their homestead. There were many early settlers that went back to their homes to the east due to their fear of the Indians and the hard work that was required. I am very happy that my family was not among those who were frightened off or left because of the hard times. If they had, my life would have been different and even if I had to do it all over again I wouldn’t change a thing.

I feel that this book will interest young and old alike. The young will get a clear picture of their grandparents’ lives and many of the older folks will be reminded of their past.
