About the Book

Darra van Zandt is a peri-menopausal American housewife living in a small village in Holland. A stay-at-home mom filled with angst over just about everything—her weight, her hair, her chickeny neck, superfluous chin hairs, and her inadequacy as a mother, Darra’s latest quandary is the change of life and how swiftly it is passing her by.

One dull, rainy April Day, with husband out of town, daughter in school and hormones out of kilter, bored-out-of-her-gourd Darra escapes her mundane life by hopping on a train to Paris to find her raison d’être.

Shortly after she arrives, a woman—the spitting image of Darra, except a bit younger perhaps and maybe more fashionable in a pink suit—like the one Jackie Kennedy wore on November 22, 1963, nearly knocks over her table as she dashes out of a café. A few minutes later—just like in the movies—a tall, handsome stranger pursues the vulnerable Darra. Before the night is over she is bound and gagged with cotton balls in a filthy warehouse outside of Paris. Her "date" is now her captor and he’s demanding that she turn over "ze paperz". This is obviously a case of mistaken identity but try telling that to Jacques...

Note to self: Be careful what you pray for.
