About the Book

Vehicles of Hope: Serving Others on the Road to Satisfaction is an uplifting look at what the author and her husband Larry learned about the essence of the human spirit while working with people in times of great joy and sorrow as they traveled in their RV building homes with Habitat for Humanity and responding to natural disasters.

Three defining threads are uniquely interwoven into the fabric of the narrative--the couple's personal pilgrimage of faith and growth; the life-altering benefits of service to both giver and receiver; and a message of hope gleaned from the people who have responded to the call to be vehicles of hope to their fellow travelers through life.

Through nearly 40 individuals' stories, readers meet Habitat for Humanity homeowners and observe all the constituencies that must mesh when hundreds of people congregate to erect numerous homes in a week; encounter three disasters through the eyes of survivors and volunteers; learn the myriad consequences of a disaster through one family's experience; and discover how individuals and communities respond when they must-face the truth of their existence. Vehicles of Hope celebrates the good news that most people are decent, compassionate and generous and, when put to the test, capable of extraordinary fortitude.
