There was a Hilary Clinton-looking woman sitting a few couches away from us and a Detective Colombo-clad man a little way away from us to the side. We delicately took a peeled mandarin out of one of our bags, sharing it discreetly. Polly continued to puff away as we sipped our delicious cheap lattes. The man in the gray trench coat was watching us, and trying to look as though he wasn’t. The ‘Hilary’ lady continued to sit there like she was waiting for someone. We thought she might be stood up, but eventually a younger woman came in who was probably her daughter. Laden with bags, she must have shopped til she dropped. We next carefully took out our nice dark bread and held it very discreetly, breaking off small pieces to put in our mouths, very unobtrusively and delicately, so no one at the front counters could see us (the counters are a little way away). Colombo continued to watch us, however, out of the corner of his eyes. Having finally finished our meal, Polly smoked her last cigarette, leaving us with only a little coffee. I finally pulled my brush picks (thin pink toothpicks) out of my shoulder bag with which we daintily picked our teeth. His face cracking when the brushpicks came into play, Colombo had to walk away unable to keep a straight face any longer. I think we were his entertainment for the day. When we went to the Ladies Cloakroom, Polly made a nice haul, a box of tissues and some tp. I tried to join in but not having my heart in it, I managed only a small roll of tissue. In response to again offering my credit card to buy her a bunch of paper products, she wouldn’t let me.

About the Author
The authoress’ real name is Arleen Crombie Heintzelman. Arleen grew up in London England and has resided in a small U.S. city in Montana, for many years. Arleen is employed by a university in the Department of Academic Affairs. She enjoys teaching British accents for theatre groups and has done this for twenty years. She also performed with a tap dancing troupe for five years. Arleen has acted in community theatre plays many times over the years. She has a soft voice and prefers commercials and print work to stage. Her favorite work is little parts in movies. Opportunities are not plentiful in Montana. Her favorite day’s acting was in General Hospital, and at that time she was a member of Portland, Oregon’s AFTRA Union and used her maiden name, which is Arleen Crombie. She is passionate about Duplicate Bridge, holds a Bronze Life Master Degree and is working on her Silver.
