The Great Millstone and the Fall of Babylon

And after these things I saw another angel come down
from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened
with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice...

city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

COLLISION IN SPACE

Sometime in the future our scientists will discover, through their exploration of space, undeniable evidence that our earth is going to be hit by the huge millstone that John saw in his vision. The great surge of astronomical knowledge in the latter part of the twentieth century and on into the twenty-first century, the unprecedented search of the heavens through Mariner spacecraft, and the construction of numerous sky labs and space stations will make foreknowledge of John's millstone to the world a reality. The fact that God has permitted such a growth in astronomical knowledge is evidence of his love for human beings, for this enables the human population to be forewarned and thus able to escape impending annihilation.

Whether the information comes through a Mariner spacecraft, a sky lab, or a space station does not really matter; the important fact is that someday an astronomical body in space will be seen that will cause great alarm. It will be photographed and studied with intense care and interest because it will eventually intercept the orbit of the earth. Just how long it will take scientists to accept the fact that the earth is indeed an endangered planet is not known. What is important is their reaction to the information once they are convinced that the earth is going to be hit by this huge asteroid from outer space.

Four Conclusions of Scientists

Once the scientists have concluded with certainty that the earth is going to collide with this huge asteroid prophesied by John, they will know four things:

1. When the asteroid hits, humankind will be annihilated.
2. We are not scientifically advanced enough to evacuate the planet.
3. We can neither avert nor avoid the huge asteroid.
4. Some kind of preservative effort is needed to save humankind from extinction.

Impending Annihilation

Imagine the honesty of the scientific world admitting, rather than denying, the certainty of the extinction of the human race. In the late seventies, when I first determined through Scripture that the earth was going to be hit by an asteroid, the whole scientific world was asleep to the idea! Discussing this concept with members of the church wasn't any better. By the time I wrote the first edition of my book in the fall of 1987 –1988, I was still looking for someone to agree with me. Not until Jupiter was hit by the fragments of the Shoemaker-Levy comet in the nineties, did the world come around full circle. The scientific community finally admitted that the earth, too, could experience such a collision. From this knowledge NASA formed a caucus to deal with the seriousness of what should be done if an asteroid were discovered en route to the earth. In 1997-98 The National Geographic Society televised a special program that dealt with this very topic. The conclusion was that there was no real understanding as to how to avert or avoid an asteroid and that such a hit could annihilate the human race. As of this date, the issue seems to be mostly tabled.
