About the Author
This writing is the story of my life as a young lad. It is a true story of how I grew up in the South. It is the way I remember about the way things were in the 40’s and 50’s. The way things were with me in a segregated, Jim Crow, society. As a youth I did not know the details of why we were separated by race and color. So I am writing only what I remember from my days back then in the forties and fifties. The story tells of the time I had a run in with the KKK, and how I was hypnotized by a snake. It is basically how I lived in the deep South among blacks and whites, with prejudice and hatred of people on both sides. This is my first try at writing. I endured Segregation, abuse by all definitions, inhumane abuse, and Jim Crow. I endured these things and more from 1944 to 1955. This is my story, and I’m Dobie. I now live in Charlotte, North Carolina with my wife Kathleen; our kids are grown and out on their own, and we now have an empty nest.
