December 14, 1999 was the official day of the passing of control for the Panama Canal from the United States to the Panamanians. The Panama Canal is comprised of three locks (from west to east): Gatun (three chambers where a ship is raised), Pedro Miguel (one chamber where a ship is lowered), and Miraflores (two chambers where a ship is lowered to the Pacific Ocean). On 12/22/99, we experienced the brightest moon in 133 years as a result of the earth being closest to the sun while the moon was closest to the earth. The moon appeared larger and brighter than usual and illuminated the usually dark ocean at night. The Drake Passage is 600 miles wide, bounded by the South Shetland Islands and Cape Horn, the southern tip of South America. Here the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean meet. This is known as the Circumpolar Current and is the most voluminous in the world (150 million cubic meters per second). Average depth is 11,000 feet and 15,600 feet at the northern and southern boundaries. Antarctica is the highest, coldest, driest, iciest, windiest continent. It is the least populated, least visited continent that produces the most trash per capita.

Deb Kadaner is the Director of Talent at ZEFER, a Boston-based strategic Internet consulting and services firm. She was fortunate enough to be able to take an extended leave-of-absence from work to cruise around the world on a 7-continent circumnavigation expedition, a graduate school gift to herself. This book is a result of the knowledge acquired while traveling the world. Originally from Montreal, she has lived in Providence, Toronto, Boston, and New Orleans. Her previous work in the Hospitality industry has taken her to Seattle, Halifax, Philadelphia, Tucson, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., New York, and Raleigh for extensive timeframes. Deb wanted to travel and see the world. She had a very busy life. She took a "time out" for herself and saw the world. She wanted to see it all but didn’t want to deal with packing and unpacking so she took a cruise and used her cabin as a travel base.
