Is copyrighting a book necessary before I self-publish my book with AuthorHouse?

Under U.S. copyright law, your self published work is protected as soon as you put the pen to paper. Copyright is based on your creative authorship and is not dependent on any formal agreement with a book publisher or self publishing company, although registration with the U.S. Copyright Office is beneficial.

Copyright Registration allows you, as a self published author, a higher level of security and confidence when it comes to protecting your work. When you register your work with the U.S. Copyright office, you create a public record of your authorship. Even though you are protected from the moment you start writing, you’ll have to register your work with the Copyright Office to be officially recognized as the copyright holder in a court of law.

 

At AuthorHouse, a self publishing company, we understand the amount of work you’ve put into your book publishing project, and ensure that you retain all rights to the content of your book throughout the self publishing process.  We place your name where it belongs, right next to the copyright symbol on the first page of your published book. As the copyright owner, you also own the foreign rights to your book.

 

  • AuthorHouse provides the ability for authors to register a book with the U.S. Copyright Office. AuthorHouse will complete all the necessary forms and send two copies of your book for cataloging in the U.S. Copyright Office. Once the government has processed your application, the copyright registration is sent directly to you. 
     
  • AuthorHouse authors can also choose to have a Library of Congress Control Number assigned to their book. The Library of Congress number is assigned during the publishing process, and will be included on the copyright page in your book. AuthorHouse will complete all the paper work and send a copy of your book to the Library of Congress.
     
  • AuthorHouse issues every book an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). The ISBN is unique to your book, allowing retailers to easily locate your title in their databases.
     
  • At AuthorHouse, you receive quarterly royalties on each and every purchase of your book, whether it is bought directly from the AuthorHouse Bookstore, an online retailer like Amazon or BarnesandNoble.com or any of the 25,000 retailers who have access to your book.
