About the Book
My First 90 Years by Milt Kogan, MD, is an unusually wide-ranging memoir about a life lived across medicine, Hollywood, family, adventure, and personal reinvention. Born into a family shaped by immigration and escape from persecution, Kogan grows up in Depression-era America and follows an unconventional path from East Camden, New Jersey, to Cornell University and medical school. His story then takes an unexpected turn: while practicing medicine, he pursues a parallel career as a Hollywood actor, appearing in television and commercials and building a decades-long relationship with the entertainment industry.
The memoir expands far beyond the doctor/actor duality. Kogan recounts experiences in West Africa with the Peace Corps, rural medicine and ranching in Montana, life in Germany, family relationships, and eventually returning to Cornell as an older student. His unconventional journey ultimately earned recognition from Cornell's president, who highlighted his education, public service, Peace Corps work, rural health experience, and dedication to film and art.
