About the Book

Dr. Effarah took the liberty of writing about what he remembered of his forgotten youth in Palestine, as time has a remarkable way of desensitizing memories, tears, losses, and tragedy. Perhaps that is one of the gifts of being human. To carry the full weight of such sadness would make life unbearable. However, sometimes it is a necessary rite of passage for a man to endure and recall the past, so that its memories do not disappear forever. And the truth and reality are not lost to the future generation. He did not need historians to tell him what happened. He was there as a participant observer, an eyewitness, and a survivor of the 1948 Palestinian Holocaust. The author confirms that the holocaust under Nazi Germany is accurate, and he deplores it. But, since 1948, the real "holocaust" is still going on in Palestine. Dr. Effarah's intention is not to write an oral history or write a personal story. It is all about true feelings and naive behaviors while a child and a teenager, living in a civilized and affluent society of Haifa, Palestine, tracing it in a simple daily diary before the "Nakba" or the catastrophe that the Palestinians went through in 1948. The book tells the story of Palestine in the Past, the Present, and the expected Future, based on historical facts and personal experiences, as well as individual perspectives gained over 78 years of monitoring the region and uncovering the truth about Palestine. Dr. Effarah writes this book for every person who believes that there are two sides to every story and would like to shed light on the plight of the Palestinians in Palestine, the Holy Land, the land of the Lord Jesus Christ. The book discusses Palestine's historical past and the Palestinians in that region, dating back 10,000 years. It provides snapshots of significant events from the present to the future. Dr. Effarah made all his efforts to prove that the integrity of historic Palestine cannot be compromised, whether by imperial machinations such as the Balfour Declaration or the United Nations' partition trick, as well as the deceit of international support for the Zionist occupation, and not by a hilarious and humorous argument of divine right in which God is mobilized as "the prime colonizer". It is important to know that Dr. Effarah's extensive analysis and clear observations on an intricate and complex set of issues in the Middle East, as part of the world, that is in search of its identity, take priority in his writings that are under the topic of "Think Palestine," where trust and respect are sadly lacking. Through this book, Dr. Effarah hopes to connect with members of his community, document his experiences, and leave an inheritance of knowledge for future generations.

About the Author

Dr. Jamil Effarah is an independent thinker who hates labels and isms. He has never been a member of a political party or group and prefers to judge issues on their merits. Dr. Effarah has lived in Ventura County, California, since 1978. He is an Arab American from Lebanon and was born in Haifa, Palestine. He is married and has two sons and six grandchildren. Obtained a BA degree from the American University of Beirut (AUB); an MD from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge (LSU); an MS degree in computer science from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette (ULL); an MBA from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks (CLU); and a PhD from the University of Oregon in Eugene (U of O). He published his first book in Arabic, The Political Problems of the Sudan, in 1958 and an updated second edition in 2000. Dr. Effarah established, owned, and directed “Kfarshima College” in Kfarshima, Lebanon, in 1962. His doctoral dissertation, “The Impact of Electronic Data Processing on Business Education in the Secondary Schools of Oregon,” is classified at the foundation level of the Mathematics Genealogy Project at North Dakota State University (NDSU) and is being taught as part of the Mathematics Subject Classification: 97—Mathematics Education at the University of North Dakota in Fargo. Dr. Borg and Dr. Gall quoted Dr. Effarah and added another chapter, “Evaluation Research,” in the third edition of their book Educational Research (1979). Dr. Effarah originated a baseline to measure unmet needs. He published over 2,000 articles in Arabic and English in newspapers and magazines in the United States and the Middle East.
