Science, God & Generation ALPHA

So why write a book about recent discoveries in science specifically for Gen Alpha? The answer is simple. Your teachers are Gen X, Millenials or from Gen Z!! These generations grew up in a deeply atheistic culture and were themselves taught science by their teachers in profoundly atheistic ways. Text books, science documentaries, video explanations and YouTube lectures for these generations were usually based on a particular world view, often called ‘scientific materialism’. This is a philosophical position claiming that all of reality, and everything we experience, can be explained by the laws of physics and chemistry and material things around us. The assumption of this ‘materialism’ was that the findings of science had removed any need to believe in the existence of God. Everything could be explained by science: the beginning of the Universe, the arrival of life on planet Earth, the evolution of all the variety and beauty of life, human nature, all of it. The belief was that God had nothing to do with it. The teaching of ‘materialism’ was that our Universe burst into existence from nothing, or perhaps from a previous Universe or a Multiverse, and was not purposefully designed. It taught that life on earth arose from random chemical reactions, thus creating DNA and the first cells. It taught that the evolution of life into all we see around us was also a series of fortunate but random events. Another conclusion of materialism was that our creativity and rational thinking, our thoughts, and hopes and dreams, were simply electrical impulses within our brains that had no deeper meaning. Our relationships and feelings of love and compassion were just the product of chemical reactions and hormones driving emotional bits in our brains. According to materialism, when we die, all of this gets switched off just like switching off a machine. None of it has a deeper meaning beyond those electrical impulses and chemistry. When we die, that’s it. The lights go out, and there is nothing beyond. But then came some surprises. In recent years, scientific discoveries and insights from the worlds of cosmology, quantum mechanics, physics, chemistry, biology, and even computer science have turned atheistic assumptions completely upside down. Each of these areas of science contains really strong evidence that our Universe, our planet Earth, and you as an individual person were created on purpose by a loving and intelligent Creator. More and more scientists are coming to the conclusion that there must be an intelligent Mind, an intelligent God, behind so much of what science is discovering. 1 Things are now changing. Rather than “Science disproves God” it looks increasingly like “Science is pointing to God”. That is what this book is about. You will need to put aside any atheist and materialist assumptions that you have picked up from school and college and culture, and look for yourself at the evidence. The way that this book will tackle this profound dilemma is to examine the three ‘Big Bangs’ that have shaped, and that continue to shape, our planet. The first of these is the Cosmic Big Bang which marked the beginning of our Universe, and all of space and time, 13.8 billion years ago. We will look at what are generally agreed to be established facts, and then compare arguments for and against purely materialist explanations. Then we will look at the Biology Big Bang when the first living cells appeared on our planet around 4 billion years ago. We will consider how DNA and RNA might have formed, and the molecular machines inside those early cells. Again we will examine various explanations for the origin of life, and look at the pros and cons of purely materialist explanations. Finally we will consider the Super-Intelligence Big Bang that we are all living through right now. There are profound insights from the sciences of computer technology and artificial intelligence about what it means to be a human being. Once again we will consider different explanations for why human beings are the way we are, and whether or not there is any difference between us humans and a superintelligent robot!
