About the Book
C. D. “Tony” Hylton III, author of the four-book series of a southern West Virginia newspaper publisher in the early 1960s. “I have known Bill Dyer since we both pledged Delta Tau Delta fraternity at West Virginia University as freshmen in the fall of 1960. We survived Hell Week, hitchhiked to Atlantic City with an overnight stay along the side of the road, ROTC summer camp, attended a great many WVU football and basketball games, tailgated in Morgantown, Pittsburgh, and before many football bowl games. We were often found together at Gene’s beer garden. Bill encouraged me to write and publish my first book, which took 17 years to complete (the next three only took a total of 6 years). Bill led a full, productive and interesting life, with many fascinating stories to tell. When he asked me about writing a book of his memoirs, I strongly encouraged him to document his life for family, friends and those interested in learning about life’s events in the past 83 years. Bill, thanks for being a good friend for more than 65 years. ”
About the Author
Bill Dyer was born in Boston MA during WWII, grew up in Morgantown WV, graduated from WVU in Civil Engineering, got his degree from MIT in Industrial Management, spent his two-year Military career in Washington DC, married Polly Dunn, his life partner for the past 56 years, worked hard to support his wife, son and two daughters, enjoys time with his four grandsons, and has done a lot to give back to his community and charities. This book describes his life from boy hood to college to driving around the US for ten weeks in 1964 (he worked for CBS at both Political Conventions) to traveling for nine weeks in Europe on $5 a day to marriage and family. He provides a detailed description of how to operate a Ferris wheel and how to flip a coin 10 times heads (or tails) in a row. As the proud one owner of a 1969 Italian sports car, follow his trials and tribulations, plus joy. Learn about his career, houses, cars, pets, significant events, hobbies and community service. While he provides many interesting stories, he is most proud of his family. A life well lived. Photo, Bill attending his 45th Opening Day at Fenway Park.
