Come, Become, and Overcome in Jesus

The purpose behind each phrase 1) Come to Jesus☹ (Conversion/justification) a) The first step signifies the initial act of faith and repentance, where a person acknowledges their sinfulness and accepts Jesus Christ as their savor. b) It is the moment of conversion, where a person receives forgiveness and eternal life, entering a new relationship with God. c) The biblical basis is found in passages like Romans 6:23, which states, “ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our lord.” 2) Become like Jesus☹ (sanctification) a) This second step represents the lifelong process of sanctification, or spiritual formation. After salvation, a believer seeks to be transformed into the image of Christ. b) It involves a deliberate, daily effort to imitate Jesus’s character and actions, including his love, humility and obedience. c) This transformation is empowered by the holy Spirit and is a process of growth that continues throughout a person’s life. 3) Overcome in Jesus: (victory /Glorification) a) This final step refers to the believer’s victory over the world, sin, and spiritual opposition, made possible through Christ’s own triumph. b) It is the assurance that followers of Christ have the power to conquer the challenges and temptations of life, not by their own strength, but by faith in Jesus. c) The concept is prominently featured in the book of Revelation, where Jesus speaks of promises to “ him who overcomes” and in passages like 1 John 5:4, which says, “ Whatever is born of God overcomes the world
