1815 -1881 - Inheritance and Renewal In 1815 Godfrey Carey, my great grandfather unexpectedly inherited the Title, Manor and Estate from his uncle a man lacking in importance and, consequence. Lord Godfrey inherited Upcott Manor and Estate that had been and, was grossly mismanaged. The whole of the inheritance was undistinguished. Lord Godfrey with physical force, much endeavour and, with Lady Georgina at his side made Upcott Manor and Estate significant 1881- 1915 - Succession and Survival Peter Carey inherited the title in 1856. This Lord Upcott was an educated man. A county man. This man was the first Lord of Upcott to extend the Upcott’s interests and, concerns beyond The Estate. This man lived through a period that went in the history books as The Agricultural Depression. This man witnessed declining prices for farming products. Declining rents. Declining land values. Despite these adverse economic conditions Lord Peter secured the family’s finances for a seceding generation.
