About the Book
The Oakland Athletics’ four championship teams of 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1989, and Oakland’s five Hall of Fame players with retired uniform numbers — Jim Hunter, Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers, Dennis Eckersley, and Rickey Henderson — are the subjects of this book of poems! Not only do the baseball poems rhyme, they are also entertaining and informative. These biographical and team poems have the added bonus of reminding kids and adults about math concepts like averages, percentages, fractions, and decimals; and writing concepts like chronology, setting, alliteration, fact versus opinion, cause and effect, metaphors and similes, and personification.
“In Sports Rhymes of the Oakland Athletics, Paul Auday seamlessly weaves together poetry and history in a truly brilliant fashion. He researched the history of the A’s, but in a storytelling method rich with facts, statistics, and unique trivia, not even found on our site!” - Sean Holtz of Baseball Almanac (www.baseball-almanac.com)
