Theo is a cheerful boy who meets each day with an enthusiastic burst typical of most healthy, happy boys! He thinks his mama and daddy are the best. He loves when they take him camping, fishing, and swimming. He loves that they never miss his soccer or baseball games. Most of all, Theo loves to go to church with his family. Mama cooks all his favorite foods. She takes pictures of everything Theo does. She has hundreds of photos--on the desk, walls, and shelves. Lately, though, the pictures have been making Theo feel sad. Daddy noticed something was bothering Theo, and he asked, "What's wrong, buddy?" Theo sighed, "Daddy, why am I different? All my cousins look like their parents. My friends at church and soccer all look like their parents." Theo grabbed his mama and daddy's’ hands and dragged them to the mirror. "Look at me! Why am I different?" Together, they studied the mirror.

About the Book
Theo's small world for the first few years consisted of Mama, Daddy, and a home filled with unquestionable love. However, as life always goes, Theo's world got bigger. He started to notice that not all families were like his. Not all people looked like him. Through his journey, Theo discovered that while everyone is different, they are very much alike.
About the Author
Alongside her husband of 45 years, Cissy Moseley has been Mom to four, Gram to twelve, and Aunt Gram to many. For over two-thirds of her life, she has been close to the stage, watching these wonderful young people navigate through the great production called life. She has seen that life often throws miscues, allowing doubts and fears to steal the scene. She noticed that these unrehearsed surprises may cause young people to question, "why am I different; why am I even here?" Cissy believes it is essential that we help young people discover--and repeatedly remind them--that none of us are that different after all.
