About the Book

As this story begins, Molly, the grandmother manatee, is reflecting on her favorite roles. She simply loves mothering Mikie, her growing grandson. Her next favorite role is being the head teacher at the Manatee Ocean School. Her students call her Miss Molly. Miss Molly’s classroom is filled from fin to tail with many different species of animals from around the world. Her main goal is to open the minds and hearts of all of her students, teaching them about the environment along the way. Miss Molly strives very hard to share her love of science with the students, letting them know that the only dumb question is one that they don’t ask. Her students’ questions are her treasures, and she takes time to answer every one of them. If she is not sure of the correct answer, she asks her students to join in researching the topic until they all understand it completely.

About the Author

As I draw pictures of life that needs a voice, cheerleader, teacher, and ambassador, it is my passion that fills the pages with color. The first book underscores why I feel it is so important that the history and stories our grandparents shared with us are not forgotten. We all have a HUGE responsibility to roll up our sleeves and do our part to help the environment not just survive but thrive. Book 2 brings to life how important it is to remember all the different habitats that Mother Nature created, to think about all the treasures it takes to keep and maintain a perfect natural balance, and to explore ways to help her sustain each of these habitats so that future generations will continue to be blessed with a bounty of gifts and unfolding miracles of life. Book 3, Exploring Natural Wetlands, is critical for our own future and for generations yet to come, for without water, we would lose the plants that not only filter the water but also absorb carbon that is fueling climate change around the world. The miracles that continue to flow from our water sources are what sustain life and provide the food that we eat, the air that we breathe, and the habitats that so many life forms depend upon. Join us for Book 4 as the Manatee Ocean School students go on their next adventure and I hope to inspire everyone to become today’s explorers and spread stories of the pioneers from yesteryear.
