The Underground Culture Of Government Housing

There were many times we had to call the police. One incident occurred one afternoon when I was doing routine maintenance calls. I was driving my utility vehicle going from apartment to apartment when I discovered a gathering of African-American men and Asian men in an open patch of grass on the side of our office building. They started to square off and form a line between them. The incident reminded me of the musical “West Side Story” They were all yelling obscenities across enemy lines. I began to chuckle. The Asians were speaking in their foren language and the African-American men were yelling in their cultural slang. Neither group seemed to be able to understand one another. I noticed they were brandishing weapons and that was concerning. The African-Americans had baseball bats and the Asians had butter knives. It was a standoff! I went into the office and reported to Karen about the standoff and mentioned we might want to call the police. When we were watching this all go down, the police finally arrived. When the police went to break up this standoff, the jets and sharks scattered. These incidents are a small example of the police calls we experienced on an almost daily basis.
