Narrator: Sarah was a shy, non-popular kid who loved to sing and dance. But she loved to sing a little bit more than she did dance. The school’s talent show was coming up in 2 weeks, and Sarah wanted to participate and perform her favorite song of all time. She was torn because she didn’t know what people would say about her, and Sarah has stage fright. She has never performed in front of anyone besides her family and now her music teacher Mr. O’Brien. Sarah did not believe in herself. Mr. O’Brien: Sarah, how about you participate in the school's talent show in two weeks? You are very good. Sarah: Thank you, Mr. O’Brien, but you know that I have stage fright and never sang in front of a crowd of people. I’m scared, and I don’t think I can do it. Mr. O’Brien: Sarah, it’s not about what others think about you; it’s about believing in yourself. Sarah: I have to think about it, and I still have to ask my parents. I don't know. Mr. O’Brien: Well, go home and speak with your parents over the weekend and let me know what they say. I know that you can do it, and I know they know too. Sarah: Okay, thanks, Mr. O’Brien. Narrator: Mr. O’Brien sees Sarah in the hallway on Monday and is excited to know what her parents said about the talent show.

About the Book
Sarah’s Story is a part of a children’s book series titled “Believe In Yourself.” Sarah is a middle school student who loves singing, but not in front of a crowd of people due to stage fright. Sarah wanted to overcome her fear of stage fright, so she decided to participate in the school’s talent show. Sarah’s story is about believing in yourself and knowing that you can do anything you set your mind to, no matter the obstacles you may face. Her story also shows that school-age students must have a support system to help them to succeed. Lastly, her story shows the courage to sing and use her talent to build confidence.
About the Author
Stephanie Swanson is a native of East St. Louis, IL. She obtained her Bachelors in Community Health Education in 2013 and her Masters in Public Administration in 2015 from Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Public Health at Walden University. Stephanie is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and has assisted her Sorority in many ways to give back to her community as well as other communities. While working in her current profession in a school district since 2017 and her love for writing, Stephanie developed a niche for writing a children’s series. She wanted to give back to her community in some way, shape, or form and this series is only the beginning. In addition to her love for children and writing, she loves to read, travel, and discuss health related topics as well as gather research.
