Gradually, the calendar continued to shed its petals all the way down to the stem. Just as Ellie’s enthusiasm and energy had withered like nature does during the winter months, the other side of the window suddenly began to look like the renewal that spring brings. Perhaps the gray swirls across the morning sky and the days losing their petals at night were not the end of a cycle but the tangible expression of a change of seasons. Ellie felt stronger. Inspired by the doctor’s words, the little one geared up and with courage ventured into the unknown terrain. The dachshund was determined to regain her enthusiasm and energy. Before departing, she reached into the old paper bag she had kept from her last visit with her friends to Adriana’s Bakery. Luckily, there were still some sweet memories in there to help her dissipate the bitter taste of the new reality she was about to try. Ellie, a typical short-legged dachshund, lives life with great enthusiasm and energy. One day a threatening bug descends on the town where she lives leaving behind a mist of particles that makes the residents ill. Ellie begins to lose her enthusiasm and energy—as well as the two letters e from her name, which represent what she has lost. Dogtor Ella, a Labrador retriever, visits Ellie and helps her realize the steps she can take to recover those parts of herself she thought were lost forever. Will Ellie find a remedy in the dogtor's wisdom and overcome the illness that has overtaken her? In this fable, a dachshund pieces together her life puzzle and transforms reality under her own design.

Ingrid Pujol is a psychologist specialized in children. She graduated from Florida International University. Ingrid has earned accolades for her writing since she was young and in the Spring of 2022 won first place in a poetry contest held in Central Florida, with her poem A Thank You Note. The author currently resides in Orlando, FL.

Ha recibido galardones por sus escritos desde temprana edad y en la primavera de 2022 obtuvo el primer lugar en un concurso de poesía en Florida central con su poema A Thank You Note.
