The Butcher of Thoughts

Eyes are waiting for the rain, hands are ready to rake the soil, and the mind is busy sketching the possibilities of fortune from the seeds for the coming season. Though the result has always been the same for the last several years, it’s the most beautiful gift to human nature—the hope that is pushing Lotus’s imagination of filling all the needs and wishes regarding this year’s crop. Yes, it is the busiest time of the year for Lotus. He is busy with work and busy with imaginings. Lotus is a very hard-working farmer. He doesn’t know what he is hoping for is much less than what he will get. Moreover, what he is going to get is much less than what he is going to lose. On the other side, little hands holding the destiny of two worlds are scrubbing the eyes and yawing. Suddenly, Morgin jumps out of bed like a bit of a brat and runs to the courtyard, where she shouts for her father, asking him to come out quickly. She is only five, unpolluted by worldly greed and still near to happiness. “Pa!” Morgin shouts. “Jump! Jump! Jump!” “What are you trying to do, my little sweetie?” Lotus replies. "Pa, the sky and stars are above us, but what is underneath? I want to push the earth down to see. Mum told me once that nothing is impossible if we work together, so come on and help me. I want to see what makes the seeds grow into trees. Moreover, I wish to find the treasure buried in our fields. Once, mom narrated the story of a great king far off in the East. He was a poor farmer just like us before he found a hidden treasure beneath the earth. She also told me that God had put treasures everywhere. We just need to look. Luckily, if we can stumble upon one, it will make our farms bigger, and we will have a larger herd of sheep and goats. We will be rich, Pa. Then we shall harvest a farm of cherries." Without weighing the logic and rationale behind the arguments, Lotus starts jumping with the little lass. For him, no fortune is worth a single smile on her cheeks. She is his most significant treasure. After the death of Lotus’s wife, Angila, Morgin’s giggle and smile are the only reasons for his hard work. The little white girl in the pink frock is enthusiastically whacking the earth with her tiny feet, trying to push the globe to find the treasure underneath for her father; she blames God. “Oh, God, if I could see what is at the bottom of the earth, there wouldn’t be any problem for any one of us,” she says. The one she is speaking to knows that the thrust of these little feet will wreck both this world and the heavens very soon. So blessed humans are, not knowing what’s next. The uncertainty keeps every action full of enthusiasm and the possibility of happiness. No one could think of the idea of pushing the earth with bare feet as innocently as she could. With her curly brown hair casing her forehead, she looks like a doll made of snow whose head is covered with gleaming brown silk. Her red lips are singing some rhyme that can’t be understood, but everyone is bound to listen and watch the little lass's expressions. Unlike others, little Morgin is just five years old and is usually busy planning games with Maria, the little lamb. Morgin has dreams, games, and almost everything for everyone in her plans. This dream world of hers keeps the innocent lass happy and smiling even with no one around. She is always nosy about the other end of the world. Her dying mother told her that there is no dearth of fruit trees. Though the little girl never has anything scrumptious to eat and does not have many toys to play with, she makes everything out of what she has. Whenever she has anything, she shares it with everyone. Destiny has given this little cutie her best blessings, including the determination not to give up hope for anything she desires and a “keep smiling” attitude for all that comes her way. She dreams of stars in the sky, though she is happy with the dust beneath her feet. She dreams of cherries but is happy with the dried bread she eats. Such is this little sparkle of God. Lotus tries his best to deliver all the worldly comforts to his charming daughter, but he is destined not to. On the other side, his little angel is destined never to complain of anything. There is no one to tell her stories; she creates her own and narrates them to her best friend, Maria, the newly born little lamb. She correlates each emotion in her heart with whatever she has in hand. If she had two pieces of bread, she would have plans for both, starting from the feeling of hunger to her contentedness with the meal to her sleeping in her father’s lap. No one knows that one day this habit is going to enlighten the world with something incredible. Even heaven is waiting to be taught by this little cleric. Louts is often astonished by some of her mature arguments. Unaware of what destiny awaits for both of them, they are happy to care for each other. One day when Lotus is out to buy seeds for the upcoming crop, he buys three apples on his way back. As he gives them to Morgin, she jumps with joy and runs out of the house, saying, “I love you, Pa.” She comes back in the evening. She is thrilled and smiling like a fresh blooming lily. Lotus asks her where she was for the whole day.’
