About the Author

Flores was born in Dallas, and grew up on a family-owned farm and ranch near Grandview, Texas. He served four years active-duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, and was awarded a top medal from the Marine Corps Commandant for his service. He is a journalist and author in the mountains of New Mexico with two books previously published.

This is a very interesting story and the author tells it with style. Highly recommended reading for anyone whether you're an oilman, or just change the oil in your car. The main character, Lucien Flournoy, remembered his mother telling him about when his father died at age 47 from the 1918 pandemic, and she was carrying baby Lucien--just four months along--and his mother had the funeral director drive the horse-drawn hearse past their house while his four sisters stood on tip-toe to watch and wave goodbye to their father. Lucien became the man that his father would have wanted him to be, thanks to his strong mother. These were good and honest, tough people. Pioneers. And Lucien was a confederate in the best sense of that word: he was engaged in an adventurous and risky enterprise going against the current, and succeeding magnificently.

As a literary person, with quite a few years of experience studying fiction and non-fiction, I find the style of writing in "The Confederate" to be highly effective in conveying the spirit and the facts of the main character: Lucien Flournoy. This is a major work important to the country, especially now.
