Nasty Nellie was a mean old witch who lived with her devilish sidekick Domino. Nellie was not a happy person at all and couldn’t stomach to see other people happy. She had in her possession a magic crystal ball. She would start each day with a cold cup of coffee and one piece of burnt toast. Nasty Nellie always drank her coffee black fearing that if she ever added just the tiniest bit of sugar, it would change her mean disposition. Once breakfast was through, Nellie would turn to her crystal ball and utter these words, “Crystal Ball so dull and unkind, show me all the miserable towns that you can find.” The witch spent many hours studying her crystal ball. If by any chance she spied a town where she saw kindness and caring between the people, she would immediately turn to her spell book and whip up a potion of her famous cold prickles. Nellie never liked wandering outside during the day, for the sunshine was much too bright and cheery for her. She would wait till the sun set then fly out on her broom. Where ever she viewed kindness and caring between people she’d drop down her cold prickles. They could make the friendliest trusting town folks turn into unkind and non-trusting people in a blink of an eye. Some of the warmest towns turn bitter cold by the unkindly flick of Nellies wrist. Life was going according to plan…that is according to Nellie’s plan until one unforgettable morning, which would ultimately turn Nasty Nellie’s miserable world topsy-turvy.

About the Book
Nasty Nellie’s Journey to Pleasantville is a story about a witch that does not like being or seeing anyone else happy. Correction, Nellie can’t stand being happy or seeing anyone else happy. That is how she acquired the name Nasty Nellie. Nellie spent her days creating batches of cold prickles and as soon as the sun would set, she would hop on her broom, along with her devilish sidekick Domino, and proceed to drop her cold prickles on unexpected towns and the people that lived there. Life was going according to plan… that is according to Nellie’s plan. Until one unforgettable morning, which would ultimately turn nasty Nellie’s miserable world topsy-turvy. Go along on this adventure with Nellie as she travels to a town called Pleasantville. It is in this friendly and kind town that she meets two young boys and a fairy that just might change Nellies nasty disposition forever. This is a tale about good and evil… or in this particular story about cold prickles and warm fuzzies.
About the Author
Jennifer Costello was raised along with her four older brothers, where both parents were school educators. She was brought up with the strong morals of always following The Golden Rule. Jennifer’s mom taught in the primary level in a public school and modeled the same morals with her students as she did at home. She incorporated the philosophy of sending out Warm Fuzzies into the world with our thoughts, actions and words instead of Cold Prickles. As Jennifer grew up and later graduated college and raised two boys of her own along side her husband, she followed in her mother’s footsteps. She implementing the same philosophy of Warm Fuzzies and Cold Prickles both as an ELL teacher in the primary level in a public school as well as at home with her family. The story Nasty Nellies Journey to Pleasantville is a tribute to her mom and dad and the way that she was raised.
