About the Book

Inside the cover of this book lies one of our favorite tales. It is a timeless story about a pure-hearted young man who inherits his kingdom at long last with the help of a good friend.Ivan is the third son, a simple boy fond of dozing in the kitchen until destiny comes rustling in the wheat. A mysterious ruffian causes Ivan to embark on his life-changing journey. The country bumpkin can only hope to survive with the help of his magical friend, the little horse Gornok. Eugene Ugrumov is happy that English speaking families can enjoy the full wonder of this Russian story on those gentle evenings that might transform into well-loved memories. Although he would prefer to recite this rollicking adventure to you in person in the quiet of the library, he can at the least warmly offer the translation you are holding in your hands. So go ahead, intrepid wayfarers, indulge your curiosity. Ride with Ivan and Gornok, those two humble heroes, to seek the jewel in the abyss of the sea, to offer greetings to the celestial bodies, and to challenge the Tsar of all the realm.
