Excerpt from Chapter Eight: Nightmares and Night Terrors. As adults, we usually don't fret too much about an occasional nightmare and tend to disregard them once we get busy with the daily routines of life. The most common thought is to just shake it off. For children, it is altogether a different matter. Instinctively they realize the need for sanctuary and the loving arms of a caring parent speaking reassuring words of peace over them. It was that particular nightmare that made me ponder my own childhood night terror dreams. To this day, I can still recall a vivid night terror dream at the age of seven. It was so terrifying that I immediately jumped out of bed and ran for the sanctuary of my parent's bedroom only to feel some unseen force holding me back. I was frightened out of my wits, unable to utter a single word, while fighting to reach their room. Someone or something was holding me back causing me to remain rooted to the floor of my bedroom. What was the force holding me captive? I still do not know the answer to that question except that it took my father turning on the light in my bedroom and his reassuring deep voice to quiet my fears and make me feel safe again. Light dispelled the darkness that surrounded me. It is important to note that God spreads light through the darkness and that the darkness has no power over the light. That is the very nature and character of our Creator. The Book of Genesis 1:1-3 reveals to us this truth, "in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said 'let there be light' and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness." Regarding nightmares (and night terrors for children) it is necessary to shine a light on the matter even if it means handing them a flashlight to keep next to their bed as a symbolic gesture. Wrestling and struggling can take hold in the darkness of night. In Daniel 2:22 we read, "He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him." From the moment of your creation, God has seen potential in you and set a plan and a purpose in motion to fulfill it. This very potential can be thwarted by subconscious fears and painful life experiences. Those generational curses and deeply hidden things will often reveal themselves in a nightmare. However, God wants to call you out of your history and back into your destiny by pulling out any evil intentions so that you can be put back on the path He designed for you from the beginning of your inception.

About the Book
God has no limitations on how He pursues us. I love what Psalms 23:6 says about the Lord's love for mankind: "Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life." Believing that God designed us to receive those revelations of who He is, it is also His prerogative as to when and how that may occur. Why not through a dream. Dreaming is part of our DNA. All across this planet everyone dreams,so there must be something significant about it. Beyond our logical reasoning, it begs the question, why would a creator equip us with such a tool? I believe it is about His pursuit of us - a quest to be relational with men and women both in waking hours as well as sleeping hours. We become a captive audience, ready to both encounter and have conversations with our Creator.
About the Author
Terrie's personal journey to understand the hidden mysteries behind dreams began in the late 60's. Her unique conversations and encounters with God in that night season of dreams was the catalyst that drove her to learn how to interpret with wisdom and discernment. Always believing God desires to speak with us even in the night, she has been given many opportunities to teach and share how to hear God's voice with regard to understanding dreams. She currently attends Horizon Christian Church in Sparks, NV where she is respected and honored as someone who can impart with wisdom the understanding of a dream.
