The Winter Traveler

In a small town on Christmas Eve not long ago, I stopped at a cabin to rest from the blizzard of snow, My old red truck was covered within the hour, Any hopes of leaving soon were turning a bit sour. I took a cup of coffee and felt my bones begin to tire, So I inched myself closer to the warm, welcoming fire, Families sat near a storyteller beginning a humorous tale, While the windows and doors rattled against the howling gale. Wool blankets and pillows were hurriedly passed around, Then all heads turned to the storyteller without a sound, He was an older man caught in the storm passing by, He sat closer to the fire with a twinkle in his eye. Mrs. Claus was fixing dinner for Santa on his special night, He needed to be on his way to start his yearly flight, The elves were packing the last presents on the stuffed sleigh, And making sure the reindeer had enough fresh hay. Santa put on his bright red coat while he huffed and puffed, Mrs. Claus had said "finish it up" and he felt quite stuffed, Somehow Santa's clothes got tangled and turned around, Mrs. Claus came to his recue....he needed to get to town!
