About the Book

Olli, the young octopus, is a curious and smart creature living in the ocean. He is always looking for adventures and meeting new friends. His classmates, the guppies, are usually hanging out with him. They get invited to King Neptune’s party for their teacher, a mermaid. They meet a hungry shark and help Olli find a new home. They have a silly day, a trip into the abyss; meet humans, a stingray and many more interesting underwater animals. One important task for them and their teacher is their help to clean up the ocean, a small group accomplishing a large task to free their underwater home from the litter in it. The rhyming stories are most entertaining with a few sprinkles of actual facts woven into them. The splendid illustrations will bring it all to life and soon Olli finds his way into everyone’s heart.

About the Author

My name is Renate Schalk Schreiner. I was born in East Prussia, Germany, which is now Poland. After my father died during WWII, my grandmother, mother, sister and I fled to the west of Germany in 1945 where I went to school to become a Kindergarten teacher. I immigrated to the United States in 1964 after teaching for a few years in Germany. Following working as a housekeeper for several years, I became a Montessori teacher in Wisconsin where I stayed for 20years. Now I reside in California. While working with young children I had many chances to read books to them. I became familiar with their likes and dislikes. Animals usually were the front runners. Knowing children’s love for all types of these creatures inspired me to create this book, which everyone will enjoy. My German cousin, Udo, created the wonderful illustrations that give this book life.
