About the Book

The Book, Letters from South Carolina, is a collection of a total of seventy-five letters to the editor by author, Steven Hawkins, who started writing these letters in 2014. He had, before compiling his collected letters anthology, been published in several newspapers and magazines in South Carolina and North Carolina such as The Greenville News, Asheville Citizen-Times, The Anderson Independent-Mail, The State, The Columbia Star, The Journal scene, Charleston Magazine, Mountain Xpress, and Charlotte Weekly. He writes about the attractions and happenings of the local regional areas that he visited with his family and friends over the years. And he writes about the historic sites and folklore of different areas around the region that he visited over the years with his family and friends on vacation and school and religious trips. Hawkins has also since last year, 2018, recently written to national newspapers such as Detroit Free Press, The Washington Times, The Jersey Journal, New York Daily News, and Miami Herald about movies and music that he always listened to and grew up on. These faraway national cities he visited several times with his family on extended vacations over the years. Hawkins loves to live in his state, South Carolina, and he always loved to visit those “smiling faces and beautiful places” with his family and friends through the years. He hopes through his letters and editorials that people around the country and even around the world will be moved to come visit South Carolina and enjoy all the historic attractions, beaches, small towns, and happenings the state has to offer. He hopes that people will find South Carolina a fast-moving place and its industry and commerce truly a part of the New South. South Carolina is just right.

About the Author

I am a Freelance writer living in Greenville, South Carolina. I attended Greenville Technical College. I am a freelance newspaper letter writer for various regional newspapers in South Carolina and North Carolina. I got started writing letters to the editor in 2014. On November 3, 2014 after I published three letters in the Greenville News I was involved in a major car accident where I injured my pelvis and had two fractured legs. I had to be in the hospital from November, 2014 to January, 2015 and rehab from January, 2015 to March, 2015. I was in rehab in the Magnolia Place center off Woodruff road in my hometown of Greenville for some time. Then I went back home in March, 2015 and went to VBS physical therapy center on Augusta road in Greenville. While I was in VBS I got back to writing more letters to the editor, and wrote 3 more in various newspapers before I started to walk again. And when I wrote the seventh one in the Anderson Independent mail entitled ‘Support local communities’ I was recovered from my car accident and walking again. Since my car accident in November, 2014 I have been a regular contributor and newspaper freelance writer for various regional newspapers in South Carolina and North Carolina, including Greenville News, Anderson independent mail, Asheville citizen Times, Charlotte weekly, and The State newspapers. I have also since the end of last year in 2018 written to national newspapers, such as New York Daily news, Detroit Free Press, Washington Times, Jersey Journal, and Miami Herald. But I mainly write letters about my travels around North Carolina and South Carolina through the years with my family and friends, and wonderful tourist attractions and happenings of the regional area. I also writes about South Carolina Republican politics, and Motown entertainment stars, movies, and music in the news.
