About the Book

Becoming the leader you were born to be relies on your ability to master five leadership principles: character, competence, compassion, courage, and commitment. o Character: refine your moral qualities. o Competence: develop skills and knowledge. o Compassion: practice empathy. o Courage: stand up for what you believe in. o Commitment: dedicate yourself to continuous learning. It has taken me more than thirty years to finally have the courage to stand up and tell the story of how I achieved the top rung of the leadership ladder in law enforcement—how I became a top cop. I have distilled my journey down to pivotal moments that have left a lasting impression on who I am as a leader and where I stand today. If my journey inspires one person to become more intentional in the pursuit of their dreams, then I have achieved my goal of paying it forward.

About the Author

Rosanne Richeal, founder of the Richeal Group, is an author, podcast host of ResurgentU—Today’s the Day, a certified speaker, trainer, and leadership coach with the John Maxwell Team, and a certified advanced relationship coach in strategic intervention. Her focus is developing confident and competent leaders by using a myriad of best-knowledge coaching and strategic intervention techniques to maximize the leadership strengths in her clients. Her passion to personally grow as a leader and pay forward the strategies she learned and developed along the way has been based on her own experiences navigating the complexities of climbing the career ladder. As a leadership and personal-growth coach, she discusses pivotal moments and critical decisions that led her to becoming a revered leader. Serving more than three decades as a public safety professional, in both the emergency medical services (EMS) and law enforcement, she ascended the ranks to reach the proverbial glass ceiling as both a sheriff’s chief deputy and municipal chief of police. In this memoir, she speaks to some of the crucial decisions that challenged her values, judgments, assumptions, and moral compass as she navigated the internal and external politics of promoting in a predominantly male profession. Learning how to grow into a revered leader took looking into the mirror of her own personal truth to find purpose, perseverance, and, most of all, the confidence to succeed. In this book, Rosanne unlocks the five essential traits (character, competence, compassion, courage, and commitment) all leaders must possess to elevate themselves and their team into a thriving force of success.
