About the Author

Marc Hyams (Marcus March) Marc started his career in the 50’s as a cameraman in the film business. Over the years he worked with some of the luminaries of cinema, such as John Huston (Moby Dick) and Carl Foreman (Guns of Navarone). Perhaps the most well known fild that he worked on was Born Free. From 1966 he was front of house manager at the White Elephant Club, Mayfair (the Ivy of Its Day) which included clientele such as Sammy Davis Jnr., Francis Bacon, Cubby Broccoli and Joan Collins to name but a few! It is felt that the rich seam of life that he experienced both as a cameraman in the heyday of the British film industry and in the vibrant, glamorous and sometimes hilarious works of the White Elephant are inextricably and inimitably interwoven into the capers of Camden and his chums. Camden and Company is Marc’s first children’s book. He has two other children’s stories on the go. Melodie Hyams Melodie left the Arts Education School, Tring, at 16 wanting to be an actress! After completing her education in London she worked in Documentaries at the BBC for a number of years before realizing that should have been pursuing her first love, art, all along. She graduated in Find Art Painting at Chelsea College of Art in 1997. Since then she has worked as a website administrator but continues to pursue her art practice in her own time. She is fascinated by the intensity and beauty of nature and animals and by the way that they are depicted by the old masters, such as Dürer and Van Eyck. However, it is the Modern and Naïve painters that are probably most detectable in her style of work. The inspiration for the cats in Camden and Company arose from these preoccupations but mainly from the spirit and humour of her father’s story. This is the first book she illustrated. She also writes, and is looking forward to depicting her own unique characters and stories.
