I stopped walking; no longer able to move. Carolyn looked up to see what caught my attention. She yelled, “Him? Oh, hell no!” She took off in a run toward both men.
Shaking off my stupor, I started to run behind her. She might just kill him if she gets her hands on him.

“No, you S.O.B.! No!” Carolyn ran up to Kristopher and pounded on his chest with both of her fists. “You promised me! You promised me!”
Kristopher just stood there and took her beating. Whatever the promise had been, he had obviously broken it and was accepting her punishment to him.
I reached for Carolyn with my body; my arms around her waist. I then pulled her to one side. It wasn’t the most graceful move I’ve made since earning my new Brown Belt, but it was still effective enough. She leaned against me and sobbed, “He promised me!” Then much softer, “He promised me.”
I responded softly, “Yes, I’m sure he did.” I had been on the receiving end of one of his broken promises too.

About the Book
Ellen is forty years old when she loses her first husband and two young daughters in an automobile accident. It is a horrific tragedy that forces her to redefine her identity. About the Author
E. F. Brown works in technology by day and writes by night. She and her husband of twenty-nine years have two grown daughters and live in Weddington, North Carolina. Kindred Spirits is her second book and the sequel to My Name on Your Lips.
