About the Book

Welcome to Vector Art Fundamentals: Digital Media Arts Series Vol. 2 for beginning, intermediate, and advanced, arts and design users. Through a series of rigorous scaffolding projects, this unique step-by-step instruction tool is designed to provide arts and design users with the fundamental skills and knowledge to create vector-based artwork and establishes a link to the Californian standards for the visual arts, the Californian career and technical education standards (CTE), and the standards for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The lessons in this book are designed so that you can learn at your own pace. Even if the user is new to Adobe Illustrator or vector-based drawing, the skills learned are transferable to most vector-based drawing programs. Through this book, every experienced artist will gain many advanced skills, including tips and techniques for using Adobe Illustrator CS6. Although each lesson in this book provides a step-by-step instruction for creating specific projects, the steps, techniques, and tools covered allow for students to experiment and explore their own ideas. This book is designed to be followed in sequence; however, if your skills and understanding are advanced enough, you can jump to any unit that corresponds to your interests and needs. Each lesson concludes with a “Testing Your Understanding” section and vocabulary list to summarize and reinforce what you have covered.

About the Author

Hello, my name is Edward and I wish to introduce myself and share my unique background, skills, training, and experiences that have brought me to where I am today as a High School Vice principal. I am a High School Vice Principal, a Freelance Graphic Designer with over twenty-two years experience and a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel with over thirty-three years military experience. I hold an Associate, Baccalaureate and Masters of Art in Graphic Design, A California Teaching Credential with emphasis in Graphic Design, a California CTE Credential and an Administration Service Credential from the University of Redlands. For over twenty years, I have brought my dedicated and unique style of teaching and communicating to both Secondary and Post Secondary Education. Prior to becoming a high school Vice Principal, I spent over eighteen years as a classroom college and high school teacher in the field of Graphic Design. I am a strong disciplinarian and unifier, that believes in building teamwork in diverse and challenging environments. I began my administrative career as an assistant principal. My duties over the past two-year as assistant principal have included overseeing all school site technology, attendance, community engagement, the Visual and Performing Arts Department, the California Technical Education Department, the JROTC department and the Social Studies department. My additional responsibilities included helping to guide the WASC accreditation process since I lead the process at my prior school, submitting new CTE and VAPA courses for a-g accreditation, revising programs, curriculum council, creating the master schedule, overseeing the 10th and 11thgrade academy integration, CTE partnerships, and the ubiquitous duties of any assistant principal like evaluations, discipline, 504/IEP, etc. I transitioned from facilities and safety and security, overseeing major renovations to the site, overhauling the safety plan and security procedures, literally putting out a fire once, attending a variety of safety meetings and continuing the partnership with the local police departments, and coordinating with other local agencies and of course, attending football, water polo, tennis, volley ball and cross country events.
