It was several years ago in Cocytus time, His time, centuries ago on earth, and any number of years in the other levels of Hell. I was a serial killer in the 1700’s, a murderer who left her mark, a bloodied kiss on the lips of her victims. I was rich, powerful, feared, and undeniably deadly. I made one mistake and killed the wrong human. His former princess on the prowl for her next victim. She was my trophy prey, a beautiful woman that exuded a dangerous energy. When I saw her, my instincts prickled the hairs on my arms stood up, my heart raced. I could feel it in my blood, bones, and skin that she would be a memorable feature in my life. The intrigue at my own behavior called me to action. I took her completely by surprise. The kill that ended my life. She told me not to; she said I would regret taking her life. I didn’t listen. I never listened to anyone. I wish I had—at least this once. The black-red blood spilled from her neck, a color of blood I’d never seen before. Stepping back, I watched the life of the girl in front of me pollute the air, filling the sky with a dark miasma. A low rumble came from the core of the earth, getting louder with every passing second. My terror consumed me as the woman’s words repeated in my head. “You don’t want to kill me. You will regret it. I promise.” Maybe I should have listened. No, there is no question; I should have listened. I can feel the evil breaking across the atmosphere, the disturbance in the earth only felt by me. Suddenly He was there with my victim in His arms. The most gorgeous ethereal being I could imagine. The body of the woman dissolved into ash while I stood watching, stunned. Faster than I can blink, He reached for me. I felt my flesh burning and I could tell I was dying. I woke in a bed—the biggest bed I have ever seen; a canopy bed. I looked into a mirror across the room. My eyes were red and my skin was pale.
