About the Book

Belle is a book about the friendship of a man and his dog. As you read, you will sense the unconditional love expressed between Jim and Belle. Mutual respect and understanding have increased through the years. This book is about the adventures of Belle, a Springer Spaniel growing up in the country. Both Jim and Belle experienced the dedication and friendship and continue to do so to this day.


About the Author

James B. Downing The author was born in Charlottesville Virginia. He spent his formative years there and in Baltimore County, Md. A good part of his life, at this age, was spent with his family, outdoors, shooting and fishing. He attended and graduated from an Ivy League University. Post college years held many challenges and priorities, the military, marriage, and four children close in age. Jim career was that of an Investment Banker. He eventually started his own company in the investment banking business. It proved to be very successful and continued until he retired. Circumstances saw Jim’s first marriage end. Five years later, he married again. He and his wife add two girls. Upon retirement, Jim took to the sea. He named his ocean sailing boat Brea. His sailboat took him to several interesting islands. He now looks forward to spending time with Belle, his family and friends. If you asked Jim to describe his life, the answer would be “No regrets, It is good”. Rosemary J. Uzelac Belle calls Jim and Rosemary “Special Friends”. Rosemary has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. “My career has taken me to many different specialties. Pediatrics is one of my favorites. Children allowed out of bed, in the pediatric unit like to go to the playroom. Here, you may find a volunteer reading a story. This is the highlight of their day. Rosemary’s five children learned to respect all kinds of animals through EXAMPLE. They learned recently, animals are playing an increasing role in the healing process for patients of all ages. Several studies show this to be true. Animals seem to have a calming and reassuring effect by their presence.
