About the Book

C. Clyde Squires depicts abiding love in a print of a couple with a child. This artwork is a part of a series of five prints of the stages of love, given to my grandmother in 1916 for her bridal shower. The prints serve as an inspiration for the novels written for each. The first is mother love in Annie’s Love, the second is puppy love in Sophie Writes a Love Story, and the third is Out of Darkness to Accepted Love. In love in their high school years, Colin and Carrie marry shortly after graduation while Colin is still in college. Together they face the usual challenges of married life, raising three boys on a farm in the Midwest. As with many women when the children are grown, Carrie reluctantly begins a career in banking. Her life is divided between her children, her career, and her parents in their declining years. The farming business grows substantially, giving them both hope for a happy future. A series of falls and consistent pain in her knees sends Carrie to doctors to determine the cause. The diagnosis of a progressive muscle deterioration changes their future dramatically. Despite the prognosis and their plans for the future, Colin and Carrie work together to research the disease and discover and invent tools to aid Carrie. The love that began in their youth becomes an example of abiding love, one that overcomes all obstacles. The book shares conversations with family members in telling their story. It is filled with laughter, tragedy, and hope for each new day. Those who have faced many life challenges will relate to how the future can quickly change. About the Author

Linda Kay Christensen, a former farm girl from the central Illinois town of Delavan, has enjoyed many years as a bank manager, a self-employed accountant and tax preparer (CPA), and an online instructor for Keller Graduate School (DeVry University). She earned her bachelor’s in Business Management and her Masters in Human Resources from the University of Illinois, Springfield. Linda’s history of writing has included everything from business communication, teaching, and journaling, to occasional poetry and writing a daily blog. Her inspiration for WE PROMISED is based on a true story. This is the fourth book in the series of the five stages of love as depicted in five prints by C. Clyde Squires, given to her grandmother in 1916 as a wedding gift. The people the artist has created in these prints will come alive in Linda’s series of the “five stages of love.” Life in the time of these prints has changed dramatically, allowing for a new look at the stories behind a modern view of the prints. Linda helped her mother, Wilma Diekhoff, complete her memoirs in a book that includes 200 recipes from family and friends. Wilma held a book signing at Barnes and Noble at the age of 82. “Flavors from the Past: Memoirs and Recipes of Wilma Weiland Diekhoff” is only available in digital format with various ebook publishers. Linda’s first romance fiction novel was published in August of 2014. “Annie’s Love” addresses mother love in its various interpretations. It is available in digital and print. “Sophie Writes a Love Story”, also available in digital and print, is based on puppy love, the second stage of love in the prints. The third in the series is “Out of Darkness to Accepted Love”, published in early 2016. A short story “Antics” was published in 2016 in the Creative Writing Institute’s Explain!, a themed anthology. Linda is married to Jerry, a former engineer now retired and a master gardener. They live in Fredericksburg, Texas. Many of the characters who contribute to Linda’s writings are the result of extensive travel. She is a member of the Writers’ League of Texas in Austin and Women of Words in Fredericksburg.
