Willy looks at the bleak picture around the shed. Some of the ground is just plain sand and doesn’t have a drop of food or water. Other spots have patches of soil where weeds cling to. Being on the north side means not nearly as much sunlight or food. There are even plants living in cracks in the little sidewalk that lead to the shed. But the weeds are native to the area and despite their place in life continue to grow everywhere. At times like these, Willy would remember what his mother always told him. “You may not have all the advantages in life but you come from good seed and you’re a good plant no matter where you grow up.” Willy just knew there was a better place for him and someday he would find it. Mikey interrupts his thoughts with an exciting announcement. “Did you hear? The fairy prince has chosen a bride and they are to be wed at the first harvest moon.” “Holy smokes, that just a couple of weeks away!” exclaims Willy. Mikey goes on, “They’re calling all the mushrooms now.” “They’re going to need plenty of seating because everyone will be there.” In the next few days the bees are extra busy carrying messages to and fro for the preparations for the wedding. This is going to be the biggest event that the garden has ever seen. Not since the coronation of the fairy king has there been so much excitement. Back at the south garden the buzz about the wedding has spread fast. Posey is so excited about it that Rose thinks she might just drop her petals. “Calm down Posey,” Rose says. “The way your acting, you’d think that you were going to marry the fairy prince.” “Oh Rose,” says Posey, “it’s just so thrilling. Did you know he’s going to marry a pixie? It’s unheard of! But soooo romantic. The fairy king has finally given his approval and now the whole kingdom is coming together.
