About the Book

The Rayl family of Lincoln, Indiana, is a family of deep Christian faith. They are also in love with basketball because of the father, Roger Rayl, who still plays pickup games against high school players in his late forties and writes about it constantly as a sports editor for the local newspaper. Roger has a great love for basketball and has passed it on to his son, Randy, who is a still-developing player and a big dreamer. Roger teaches Randy his famous hook shot, which later enables him to move from a manager to a varsity player. Roger eventually begins doing freelance writing for a national publication, which allows him to travel and cover major national tournaments. The town of Lincoln, ironically, is a baseball town with many state titles and a great coach. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is also a very important part of this book.

About the Author

Dave Krider is in his fifty-sixth year of writing about high school sports, the last forty-six on a national basis. He has authored four books and belongs to eight halls of fame—including the National High School, US Basketball Writers, and Indiana halls for basketball, baseball, and sports writing. He still plays noon hoops twice a week at age seventy-seven against much younger players and fully believes that you can’t grow up in Indiana and not be touched by a basketball. He and his wife, Lois, sponsor the La Porte, Indiana High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a group he has either sponsored or cosponsored for forty-one years. Dave and Lois have three living children, all girls, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They give all the glory, honor, and praise to God and Jesus Christ, their Lord and Savior, for their incredible blessings.
